S2014 THE FLOWER BASKET SHAWL |
Fiber Trends Pattern S2014

Stockinette stitch lace creates flowers in oval baskets. Knit from the center back neck down, the lace flows into a simple, scalloped horizontal edging. Since the edging can be worked at the end of any 10-row lace repeat, this shawl can be worked in a variety of sizes.
Size: Instructions for 3 sizes in 4 yarn weights.
Measurements are approximate and will vary with yarn used. Size can be easily changed by adding or subtracting pattern repeats.
Scarf/shoulder shawl: 27" (69cm) deep and 54" (137cm) wide.
Small Shawl: 34" (86cm) deep and 68" (173cm) wide.
Large Shawl: 45" (114cm) deep and 90" (229cm) wide.
Yarn Requirements and Needle Sizes:
You will need a 24" to 32" (60 to 80 cm) circular needle in the size given below for your yarn weight.
Lace wt: Scarf/shoulder shawl 425 yds (388m); small shawl 650 yds (594m);
large shawl 1175 yds (1074m); US size 5 (3.75 mm) needle.
Fingering wt: Scarf/shoulder shawl 325 yds (343m); small shawl 600 yds (549m); large shawl 1100 yds (1006m); US size 6 (4 mm) needle.
Sport wt: Scarf/shoulder shawl 300 yds (274m); small shawl 550 yds (503m); large shawl 1000 yds (914m);US size 8 (4.5 mm) needle.
DK or lt worsted wt: Scarf/shoulder shawl 250 yds (229m); small shawl 450 yds (411m); large shawl 850 yds (777m); US size 10 (6 mm) needle.

These adorable baskets knit up quickly and can be used for Easter or any special occasion. Knit one up for a wedding or your next baby shower.
Sizes: Will vary with the amount of felting.
Baskets shown measure 8" (20cm) across at base and3½" (9cm) deep, or 11" (28cm) to top of handle.
Yarn Requirements: Use a DK weight yarn that felts easily. We used Perendale by Naturally Yarns.Yarn is used double strand throughout.
Approximate yardage needed:Easter Basket: 260 yards (238m) of MC and 20 yards (18m) of novelty yarn.Shown in Perendale #91 (3 skeins) with Temptation #616 (1 skein).
Baby Shower Basket: 210 yards (192m) of MC and 60 yards (55m) of CC. Shown in Perendale #74 (2 skeins) and #96 (1 skein).
Flower Girl Basket: 290 yards (265m). Shown in Perendale #64 (3 skeins)
Needles: US size 11 (8mm) in a 16" (40cm) circular and a set of double points. 1 spare, smaller 16" (40cm) circular.
Other Supplies: 2 yards of lawn trimmer line, cut into 24" (60cm)lengths. (We used .065 gauge line.)Optional Supplies:For Easter Eggs: Approximately 20 yards (19m) of wool and a styrofoam egg for each; felting needle and small amount of fiber for decorations.For Flower Girl Basket: About 3 yards (meters) of narrow ribbon.

A field of flowers is bordered by waves of old shale on this Shetland style, square lace shawl or throw. Designed for DK, fingering and lace weight yarns, using one or multiple colors
Blocked Size:
In DK weight yarn: approx 60" (152cm) square.
In fingering or lace weight: 47" (119cm) square worked on size 5 (3.75mm) needles or 57" (145cm) square worked on size 6 (4mm) needles.
Yarn & Needles Used:
For DK wt throw or shawl: 520 yds (475m) each of 4 colors of 8 ply (DK wt) wool in natural (A), very lt brown (B), lt brown (C), brown (D).
Size 9 (5mm) 29" or 32" (80cm) circular needles.
Double pointed needles in the same size and a size H (5mm) crochet hook.
For fingering or lace wt shawl: 1200 yds (1097m) if worked on size 5 (3.75mm) needles, 1500 yds (1371m) if worked on size 6 (4mm) needles.
